J.S. BACH • ST. MATTHEW PASSION
J.S. Bach's vivid account of Christ's Passion combines striking drama with devotion like no other. It challenges, questions, comforts, and contains some of the most exquisitely crafted music ever written. Bach's St. Matthew Passion is rich in depth and spirituality, as relevant today as when it was first performed at Good Friday Vespers at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig in the late 1720s.

‘Valenzuela has shaped Bach Collegium San Diego into an artistic force that has put San Diego on the world’s Baroque performance musical map...He not only knows the music deeply, both its structure and its heart, he also knows how to find and nurture this empathetic knowledge in his artists. Most importantly, inside every bar, he finds Bach’s sense of joy, buoyancy and elevation.’ -Marcus Overton, San Diego Union-Tribune
