Tijuana market hop + street eats trek

    Sun., Aug. 25, 10 a.m.
    Tijuana Tijuana, Tijuana

    Buy Tickets$42

On Sundays, the hilltop streets of Tijuana are filled by swapmeets so massive — blocks and blocks of vendors selling mountains of the most random secondhand loot. Even if you make your way out of the bargain bin maze without dropping a single peso, you’ll walk away having lived an essential Mexican experience: the mercado. Each market is also home to some of the city's most-mouthwatering street eats, which is why we like to tout our monthly market hop "a food tour in disguise." We'll do stops at some of Tijuana's most iconic markets, from flea to folk: the city's longest-running swapmeet, the Mercado de Artesanías crafts market, Mercado Miguel more

During the weeks leading up to Mexico’s annual Independence Day fiestas patrias on September 16, kitchens across the country roll out one of its most incomparably unique dishes: chiles en nogada. A roasted chile poblano stuffed with picadillo, covered in a creamy walnut sauce and topped with pomegranate — a mouthwatering combination whose colors symbolize the green, white and red of the Mexican flag — this seasonal plate was first prepared by nuns in the city of Puebla and served to Mexico’s new emperor after the conclusion of the Mexican War of Independence in 1821. Masked men in stretchy pants throwing down body slams, somersaults, backflips and trash talk en español could only mean one thing. Así es, ¡lucha libre! Mexican wrestling differs little from its American counterpart, technically speaking. Best two out of three wins. But the camp, action, drama, color, acrobatics and sporadic pyrotechnics make it nothing short of a living, breathing comic book.
